New EU Bioeconomy Strategy Published

The European Commission has published a new EU Bioeconomy Strategy entitled ”A Strategic Framework for a Competitive and Sustainable EU Bioeconomy”. It builds on the 2012 Bioeconomy Strategy and the reviews carried out in 2018 and 2022, shifting the focus towards industrial deployment, market scale-up, competitiveness and resilience.

The strategy sets a clear direction for a competitive, sustainable and nature-positive European bioeconomy that strengthens industrial capacity, supports regional development and reduces dependency on fossil-based and imported materials. It focuses on 4 priorities: scaling innovation and investments, creating lead markets for bio-based solutions, ensuring sustainable biomass supply and strengthening international cooperation.
