Help Shape the New Strategic R&I Agenda on Food Systems

The European Commission is currently preparing a new strategic research and innovation (R&I) agenda for sustainable, competitive and resilient food systems, “Food 2040”. It will build on the Food 2030  which has pioneered the adoption of a systemic approach to connect, scale up, and boost EU R&I investments and impact with the support of Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe framework programmes. As announced in the 2025 European Life Science Strategy, the new agenda will guide research and innovation priorities in the next Framework Programme 2028–2034 and the European Competitiveness Fund.

To inform this process, the Commission invites stakeholders from research, industry, civil society and public authorities to contribute to a consultation survey on the design of the future R&I agenda. The survey gathers insights on key areas such as sustainable and healthy diets, climate‑smart and circular food systems, food systems governance, and data‑driven transformation.

Contributions to the survey can be submitted until 13 March 2026, 12:00 CET.
